Christine Nordica was the commanding officer of the Fourteenth Legion of Vega from at least 3025 through the War of 3039.[2][3]

History[edit]

During the War of 3039, Nordica and the Fourteenth Legion of Vega were stationed on Vega when it was invaded by the forces of the Federated Commonwealth. As the Fifth Amphigean Light Assault Group was being defeated by a small army of mercenaries, Nordica's troops took up defensive positions around the planetary capital Neucason. While the Fourteenth Legion were veterans of the fighting for Vega during the Fourth Succession War, Nordica was fully aware that the position her troops were in was far less favorable than the conditions of the previous war, lacking the support of the Second Legion of Vega and facing both the Third Lyran Guards and Third Davion Guards. Furthermore, the Third Davion Guards' new commander was an accomplished officer who was unlikely to make the same mistakes that cost the Davions and Steiners victory in the past.[3][4]

Nordica's forces endured six weeks of siege before the mercenary troops responsible for the Fifth Amphigean LAG's defeat were able to relocate to Neucason and add their weight to the assault. When the mercenaries began shielding the main FedCom forces from Nordica's raiding attacks, the now-focused Lyrans began putting immense pressure on Neucason's defenses. By the third week of June, Nordica's position was untenable and she made the decision to retreat from Vega, knowing that any relief force would arrive far too late to save the Fourteenth Legion. On 19 June, the FedCom commanders allowed Nordica's DropShips to leave the planet unmolested and, by 26 June, Vega was declared secured.[3][4]

On 12 July, prefaced by Draconis Elite Strike Teams and Internal Security Force strikes against the Lyran occupiers' command and communications facilities, the Fourteenth Legion returned to Vega alongside the Second Legion of Vega and Second Dieron Regulars. While some elements of the Fourteenth Legion became bogged down in two weeks of fighting against the mercenary Snord's Irregulars, the rest of the Fourteenth accompanied the Second Dieron in its drive against Neucason. When the Grave Walkers attempted to halt the Draconis Combine's advance, the Fourteenth Legion moved up and pushed the mercenaries back. With the FedCom's mercenaries on the run and retreating off-world, all three Combine units launched into a three-day-long assault against the capital city which ended with the Third Davion Guards withdrawing from Vega. By 16 August, Vega was officially back in the Combine's hands.[5]
